Belated Birthday

Someone turned another year old a few weekends ago, and we like to call that someone "Daddy" around here!

He's part football fan, part foodie. He's my go-to tech guy and The Sheriff's #1 helicopter artist.  A little husband, a little Daddy, a whole 'lotta love!

We celebrated his big day (which always falls somewhere near NFL opening weekend) by trying to allow him to watch as much football as he could, and we threw in some homemade queso and salsa for game day snacking.

Daddy and his Tex-Mex prodigy
In a not-so-impressive attempt to capture the weekend, I did manage a blurry phone picture of my sous chef helping to create a birthday dirt cake. Little Man's eyes lit up when he realized the big bowl we put the dessert into wasn't all for Daddy but for us all to share. I can't help but laugh at how he must have been so concerned in his head about Daddy having such a big bowl and the rest of us not having any!

Apparently at bedtime, W and Daddy discussed his birthday present weeks before the big day, and when helicopter jammies were proposed (by the little guy, not J of course), we rose to the challenge.

and we have helicopter jammies success!

While celebrating with the kiddos is a lot of fun, I have to take a moment to celebrate how wonderful my husband truly is. I ran across the following quote about Daddy falling apart in Waiting for Birdy ( a must read my friends!) and couldn't help but think of J.

He doesn't break down. He's held me up more times than I can count. He loves me. I love him. I am so blessed to have him in my life.

And to that--Cheers Honey! (Now you can throw the card away. It's documented properly. :)

Heart Smiles

I am not even sure where to begin with our recent trip to visit college friends in LA. These people know my spirit, accept my friendship, and care for my heart just like family.  They inspire me, laugh with me, love with me.

It's a shame that we don't have more "us" in the pictures from the weekend, but I think it's safe to say that our hearts are captured in the faces of our children, and that's a blessing beyond words.

'Atta girl A! Dive right in!

I have some pretty wonderfully silly Godchildren!

Learning that sharing is caring.

John loved all his snuggles and managed to keep everyone cuddling despite spitting up on everyone! Thanks for loving my spitty baby, y'all!

These two were content to swing it on out all afternoon.

They aren't all looking, but hey, no one's crying! I can't wait to see what the next generation of "Pitos" will do.

We Love Grandparents

And we especially love when they visit us in Hometown, TX!

The Sheriff showed Grandpa a thing or two he's learned about fishing.

The Deputy enjoyed Grammie snuggles.

Momma and Daddy got a date night out of the visit, W learned all about "flying balloons," and all of our hearts were refreshed until the next visit.

The Sixth Sense

Hey Little Buddy!

It's been half a year, and I have a sneaking suspicion that things aren't slowing down any time soon. You certainly aren't as you are becoming quite the little mover. You've got the "push-up" nailed down and have started pulling those knees in and rocking back and forth. It seems that you just can't wait to keep up with your big brother and snag his toys.

Speaking of W--no one lights up your face quite like he does. You give genuine baby belly laughs for him all the time as you watch him play around the room, and when he stops to talk to you, you give such a great giggle that I can't help but stop what I'm doing to watch you two interact.

You roll across the room and "crawfish" around, leaving me little time to quickly run here or there around the house. You are fast, little man!

I almost don't want to type it, but you are giving us a bit more sleep at night, and we love it! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

You've mostly mastered this sitting up business, but you would much prefer wandering around on your belly or back. We'll give it time.

While you were all about "solids" when we started, you have recently turned your nose up to everything which is a bit stressful, but we are pretty sure you will come around. I'm doing my best to make your food, so perhaps you just need more variety more quickly. Perhaps the pesky top teeth you are trying to pop through your gums are just too distracting. Regardless, we will keep plugging along.

You had your second major car trip to LA and let us know that being stuck in the car seat wasn't on your plan. We will blame that again on teething.  Seeing our friends and introducing you to the people that are as family to us kept us going through the tears.

I think you are going to do big things this next month or two so I am just soaking in your baby-hood as long as you'll let me, little blue-eyed boy! You keep us guessing, keep us smiling, keep us loving. I think that's just how you are programmed, and we are so blessed to call you ours.
