It's Division Weekend.
1. NFL Football is right smack dab in the middle of pop culture. Check out Google's trending topics this Sunday and you'll find the search for Aaron Rodgers' girlfriend causing some stirs. Is it his good looks? Is it his rocket arm? See his highlights below. He was particularly special this weekend with 366 YDS and 3 TD, which might not seem out of the ordinary for him, but he was crisp in passing and quite evasive in eluding the dirty birds.
2. There's A Ball on the Ground -- Well, Pick It Up and Score! Consider this something like when life hands you lemons.... or carpe diem... or, well, just make the metaphorical play already!
3. Private Moments with You Significant Other Should be Just That -- Private.
Rex Ryan has found himself the fool on a couple of magazine covers now including the New York Post. And more--how about being hidden within the witty Wes Welker's trash talk. This English teacher appreciates his language manipulation AND smile-less delivery. Boom.
4. Speaking of Drama-- While the NFL is admonitory about the exchange of words back and forth between the Patriots and the Jets prior to today's game, a little trash talk here and there has definitely helped to hype the weekend. While I agree that we don't need to see any more illegal hits and concussions/injuries, the mouthing off has definitely made me much more interested in the game. Do you want more female viewers? Add some soap-opera high jinx/reality show drama. (But really, play nice on the field guys. Well, by nice I mean within the rules.)
5. You Mad Cause I'm stylin -- Did I just learn this phrase? Yes. Did I learn it from watching football? No. But interesting topics come up sitting on the couch next to the Cowboy. The real question is-- can I apply it? I think so.

Your Relevant News -- You Heard it Here First
Or maybe it wasn't here first. Maybe this is old news. Maybe it's news you don't care about. Either way, this is what I've learned so far this week:
1. Stephen Ridley will be entering the draft and thus leaving the LSU Tigers sans (yep, used that word) his talent as a running back. In your honor, I leave you this get-pumped-up video I hoped to find prior to the Cotton Bowl but did not. Let's skip summer and get to next year's head-smacking match-ups!
BUT, Ridley would look great in a Houston Texans uniform. (As would you Cam Newton and Patrick Peterson--heck anyone who can make some plays.) I wonder if the Texans front office is hiring. Maybe I can help make some changes
2. The lovely songstress Jewel is going to have a baby! I couldn't be happier for a woman who carried me through my teen angst and then took a downward turn trying to go catchy pop while I was in college but regained her strength and the songbird helping my sweet boy go to sleep each night. Her little one will be so lucky to have her softly singing her lullabies each night. Speaking of, I hear there will be a new children's album.
3. Donald Trump might run for President? What?!?!
4. Brett Favre is looking forward to his next career -- dancing. Ok, so this isn't really news, just something for a grin. It makes it harder to hate him now.

The Week Ahead
1. Blog about something relevant. While my to-do list is of utmost concern in this household, the world out there does not care. Therefore I will find something relatively known to comment on. Does this include The Bachelor? Maybe. Guess you will have to read to find out. How about that for a cliffhanger! (geez....)
2. Casa de Comida para Bebes -- This is the Sheriff's favorite new restaurant. But guess what's more amazing? I translated everything except the "Bebes" part. Thanks Spanish classes at LA Tech University. Anyhow, this week I'll be making some green beans for the wee one. He's quite the fan of sweet potatoes.
3. Finish packing away Christmas in the closet o' decorations in the guest bedroom. Perhaps I will take out Mardi Gras? Perhaps not.
4. Go for a run. Yes, it will be 50 degrees outside. No, the Sheriff will not be accompanying me. Alas, I will run!

To Be A Mother
To all mothers, all future mothers, and all those who know in their souls that they will one day be a mother.
I love Sugarland, and I love this song. It does two things for me. First, it truly captures the way I feel about my son (and *fingers crossed) future children. What a blessing it is to be given the grace to be there as this song describes for your children.
But not only does it make me feel so fortunate to be able to love this way, but reminds me of how our Father loves us. From Moulin Rouge, "The greatest gift is just to love and be loved in return."
I am so thankful this Sunday for the gift of a child to love and the love that the God the Father has in creating me to be love to others.
*Note--any errors in lyrics are not my own. Ex: ---bears, not bares
My prayer today is for all you Mommas and future Mommas and those who pray in their own hearts to be blessed with a child. God sees all and knows all. May each one of your desires fall within His will.

Friday Fun in the New Year -- The Bachelor Takes Over
Mixing it up a little with these Fifteen Friday Thoughts
1. What's with the obnoxiously shirtless pictures of this latest (second time around) Bachelor? Not a usual Bachelor viewer, I am giving this seemingly controversial season a go. I'm just catching up now, but cannot believe, wait--it's TV, yes I can believe, how raunchy this is!
2. Working on making my own baby food. Did I slightly burn the sweet potato I was baking tonight and stink up the house? Yes. Oops.
3. So far I am kicking @$$ on my book list for 2011. I am almost finished with A Visit From the Good Squad. To be honest, I started before the New Year, but still, I am almost done, and found the ending quite intriguing. We aren't even halfway through January, and I am knocking one off. I am still waiting on my three recommendations from Michelle. That's a hint. Now we'll really see if you read my blog. ;)
I might also have to add some novels from other top 10 lists. Mockingjay seems to be a must-read as well.
4. Christmas decorations are down. They are not picked up. Why is there no "decoration fairy" to put up and take down these nuggets of seasonal joy? There is a soap fairy to refill the hand soap and a toilet paper roll fairy to change it out (she doesn't drop by here often). Come on imaginary world. Explore your options.
5. We are jumping back to the bachelor--Quotables anyone? "Dentistry is an art form, and the mouth is my canvas." (That's for you Dad.) "He doesn't know it yet, but I'm actually his wife." "I'm a manscaper!" Where did they find these women?!?! And what's with the fashion marketer's metaphor? Finding a husband is like finding a pair of shoes? No, doesn't work. And now FANGS? What?!
6. I'm missing some REAL reality television. Why, FOX, why must I wait until the summer for So You Think You Can Dance?
7. The first graders in my CCE class are obsessed, just completely enthralled, with the bathroom connected to our classroom. A pre-school room hosts our weekly class, and what do preschoolers need for their bathroom needs? Well, a toilet only a bit larger than one used for potty training. We have thus banned the phrase "tiny toilet" from use. They giggle for 3-5 minutes straight if this topic is broached. But they are little smarties and are coming up with codes and nicknames for this private friend. Silly Silly. Sigh.
But you gotta love 'em. We talked about the Epiphany and worked on drawing in an coloring a present within which they drew what they would want to give Jesus. Suggestions were a prayer, kind words or actions to a friend, etc. Instead, one sweet little girl posed in response to "What present would you give Jesus?", nothing else but, "a wife." Make of that what you will!
8. I'm trying to become a Coupon Momma! If you have any suggestions, do let me know. Now that I've finally found the diapers we like for Sheriff, I will either use amazon or diapers.com to save money. But I'm looking for any options. Food, toiletries, baby items, household needs. My problem is that they need to be low maintenance options. Am I asking too much?
9. I'm only on 9. Geez I'm so distracted tonight. It must be the riveting interview with Brad Womack and the two girls he denied the last time he was on the show. I guess I am trying to figure out whose voice he seems to have. I do know someone who sounds just like him. In TX? Shocking I know. But I just can't pinpoint it.
10. "Aren't you a tall drink of water?"I wish I could say things like that in a sweet Southern accent. I guess my Cajun roots would say something like, "Meh, ain't you a big glass a wawta" AND the Sports chick is pushing it way too hard.
11. Next week I will start working out again. I don't really have to lose baby weight. Please don't hate me. I'm so not in shape though, and more than that, I just love the thrill of endorphins running through my body at the end of a hard run or the on-top-of-the-world feeling of lifting weights like you are one tough girl not to mess with. Whether I try to get a sitter once a week or leave Cowboy to babysit for the night, I do declare that the gym and I will be reacquainted.
12. Sheriff is a Pampers kid. Just tried some Huggies that we had from a diaper cake. I mean just....Why is the entire back of his outfit wet? Back to Pampers we go.
13. I'm not a fan of NBC changing their daytime schedule. I don't watch much television during the day. Sometimes it's on, but outside of a few minutes of the Today Show and local news at 11, there's just not much that I can sit there and watch while playing with the Sheriff. Well, that is outside of Ellen. She used to be at a perfect time. I could catch the beginning or end and eat lunch while Wyatt napped as he is usually sleepy at some point around noon. Well, now she's at 2:00. Not a fan. Change that for me, NBC, please.
And speaking of change! What happened Kroger? Your Private Selection brand of ice cream is trying to get too fancy and after months of no ice cream for me, I am truly saddened to see that you discontinued Double Chocolate Cookie Crumble or something like that. Instead you have attempted decadent flavors (well at least decadent names--Denali Extreme Maximum Fudge Moose Tracks--what does that even mean?), and you have failed me. Sometimes I shopped there because I knew I wanted ice cream. Alas, you have compromised our relationship, and HEB just might be seeing more of my face. So sad.
14. A picture thought I'm sharing:
15. THANK YOU Brad Womack and your throng of out-of-the-woodwork women for providing such a humorous introduction to this season. I might have now even hooked Cowboy.

Hey 2011, I've Got Your Resolutions Right Here Baby!
Committing to a New Year’s Resolution will not necessarily bring profound lasting life change. Committing your heart to God…studying, learning, and praying His Word…that is what will bring eternal, lasting life transformation.
I invite you to join me this year in writing a New Year’s Prayer. To begin, examine your New Year’s Resolution and prayerfully ask the Lord to reveal the heart issue behind it. Ask Him to lead you through His Word to verses that directly address what you hear.
When I read the previous words from my "Encouragement for Today" email, I knew that they'd find their way onto a blog post. Why? Thanks for asking. Well, they point directly to my New Year's Resolution history. I make these promises to myself, whether they be goals, ambitions, desires, daydreams, self-improvements, whatever, and somehow by February they are lost again on the pages of a journal instead of weaving throughout my life.
But I believe these desires in our hearts are not just our own, but are placed there by a God who loves us more than we can even dream, and this is why with a prayerful heart, I am seeking 11 in '11 this year. Eleven resolutions. Eleven promises to myself. Why so many? Well, I think I'm worth it. Some are more tangible, and I'll find easy to achieve. Others will take time and prayer, and they will only be found through time and prayer.
Here we go:
1. Read the top ten fiction books of 2010. I need to catch up from last year before moving on to 2011. To this list I will also add my kindred spirit's top three must-reads (to be discovered as soon as she emails me back). So this will include:
2. Learn the NFL divisions.
3. Cook from a real cookbook once a week. We have several, but I'm an Internet chef. It's time to break the binding and flour up some pages.
4. Seek peace and worry less.
5. Be more patient with my family and myself.
6. Run a half marathon. I doubt that I'll ever do a full one. These two knees just aren't young enough, but I think the three of us could manage a half.
7. Find my creativity again. Let's get crafty, y'all!
8. Pray more often. Pray more deeply.
9. Be more intentional in my relationships. This means keeping up with old friends, loving my husband and child with all that I can, and seeking new friendships wherever they may be.
10. Giving myself permission--permission to love, to succeed, to fail, to jump, to stand still, to laugh, to cry, to do more, to do less. With permission, I will find true contentment in being who I was made to be.
11. Learn something new about technology! I don't know--maybe something new with photography or blogging or shortcuts. (This means I will need your help, Cowboy!)
And now if you'll excuse me, it's time to write my New Year's prayer. In the meantime, may God bless you and yours this new year with His peace, love, and joy.
