Friday Fun

Thanks again to  My Life in the Men's Room for this blog idea! The Shrimp couldn't help but be completely lovable this week. Of course, he was still a pill sometimes, but aren't we all!

Today..

I hope God takes care of...me. I've been an emotional girl.

Outside my window... gorgeous! Thanks for hitting Houston, Fall!

I am listening to... drum roll please.... yep, the baby monitor again.

I am wearing... jeans that have both been tee-teed on by Shrimp and spit up upon. Oh dear!

I am loving...The Biggest Loser!

I appreciate...  my mom and grandmother. Words of wisdom come from both!

From the kitchen...The spinach/tomato/mushroom creamy (due to dairy free butter and rice milk) was actually quite tasty and made enough for noshing on leftovers all week. My mouth was watering the whole time though thinking of how much better it would be with real butter and milk. Mmm. Wyatt, grow out of this intolerance soon! Tonight we are rehashing the bacon episode.

I am proud... of my family's sense of determination.

One of my favorite things... walking into Shrimp's room in the morning. What a great smile!

I am grateful... for modern medicine.

I am thinking about... probiotics for babies????

What I dreamed this week ...  This week was a doozy! First, early in the week I dreamed we were at St. Anthony's Church back in good ole' LA in the cry room, except it wasn't just a cry room. There were big screen televisions which were supposed to be airing the Mass but instead were showing a UT football game. Cowboy was obsessed with watching it for some reason. However, there was also a television that showed the congregation what we were watching and I was so embarrassed that everyone thought we were watching football instead of paying attention to Mass!
The next night I dreamed that someone was trying to kidnap Shrimp. Intense!  A later dream that night had Cowboy telling me we had to army crawl around Wyatt's room so we wouldn't wake him after we put him down.

I am praying...for bellies.

Shrimp... is gearing up for a Halloween weekend! By this I mean, Momma is putting all of his Halloween clothes on him this weekend. We visited my old school today with his "My first Boo!" onesie. It will be washed before Sunday to grab another wear out of it. He's almost got rolling from back to tummy down. He is a great tummy to back roller. Maybe this weekend we'll work on it more!

What I realized... I smell like baby spit up! Outfit change time.

Planning for the weekend.. some down time on Saturday will be nice and then it's neighborhood fun for Halloween on Sunday!

Watch it.

Getting Fall Ready

Fall is here. Well, was here. Then it left. And we are back to 90 degrees here in South TX. Bummer.

BUT.... it's coming again on Thursday we hope, and I can't wait for a Halloween weekend with a bit cooler temps, yummy (but dairy and soy free) chili, and our first candy holiday with Shrimp. We started the Fall festivities this past weekend with a visit to the pumpkin patch. Sort of.

I've never been to a pumpkin patch before and expected vines, dirt, pathways through mounds of gorgeously orange pumpkins. Those must exist somewhere, but the one at the church practically around the corner was not quite what I had imagined. However the key there is right around the corner.

So we did get some pictures of the little guy, and while the setup was a little disappointing to me, he didn't seem to mind.

The church also had some sort of festival going on after their Sunday services so there was liturgical dancing, hot dogs, face painting, and a hayride. We were just there to pose with the orange globes though. We did come home with a nice one for carving and a runt pumpkin for the Shrimp.

Although it was upper 80s, the pumpkins were arranged on wood pallets (sp?), we couldn't take all of the pictures we wanted to because the majority of the crowd was watching an interpretive dance, the Shrimp decided to spit up all over his outfit, and we couldn't partake in all of the events, I think it was a successful first for this family. See the evidence below.

We took the pumpkins off the pallets and made our own "patch"--blanket included.

Greatest baby ever!

Love...love...love this picture, but does anyone know how to photoshop flyways?

This one makes me smile. I can see him as a teenager going "moooo-oooom" when I try to hug him in front of his friends.
That last caption wins the award for longest ever.

Your Weekly Dose of Friday Fun

Thanks again to  My Life in the Men's Room for this blog idea! The Shrimp couldn't help but be completely lovable this week. Of course, he was still a pill sometimes, but aren't we all!

Today..

I hope God takes care of... justice.

Outside my window...It's beautiful! Hot but windy. And just when I thought we'd meet Karen of Tales from Chenoland, who hasn't posted in forever by the way, for lunch, Shrimp took a monster nap and woke up needing to eat. Boys! Well, we'll meet next week hopefully, and I guess she's excused from blogging being that the Fall is always super busy at school.

I am listening to...pandora -- Sugarland Radio

I am wearing...a real outfit! You see, that lunch that we were supposed to have, well, I thought I'd try to look presentable. Nope. All dressed up and nowhere to go! But I've got on dark jeans and a somewhat dressy sleeveless blouse. The word blouse bothers me. Maybe I should say sleeveless "top." Well, I guess we'll make a trip to the grocery store to make the shower, blowdrying of hair, and dirtying of an outfit worth it!

I am loving...the silly side of Shrimp!

I appreciate...  video baby monitors. I'd have to go check in on every noise if not.

From the kitchen...I made a chicken soup and turkey enchiladas this past weekend. We were able to eat on leftovers every night. So yes, I'm tired of the soup, but I think it's a game plan to go with for a little while. This weekend I will go for some tomato, spinach pasta and maybe we'll do that bacon wrapped theme meal again. Actually, I'm thinking tonight we'll take the kitchen outside and do steaks.

I am proud... that I've blogged (albeit a short one) in between the Friday Fun posts.

One of my favorite things...Coke! After pregnancy I've given up on diet coke, so a caffeine free real coke is the perfect fix on a long afternoon.

I am grateful...that it's Friday!

I am thinking about...trying to understand why the wireless network on my laptop won't pick up. Yep, Cowboy, this means I am on your computer.

What I dreamed this week ...  I need to write these down each day. I woke up every morning this week in a sweat and thinking about the bizarre dream I just had. Some where thriller type dreams where someone was after me. I can't remember all of them. I do remember one though. Turns out my old students were trying to sabotage my CCE 1st grade religion class. They were messing with the lights and playing horrible pranks while I was trying to keep the attention of 12 antsy kiddos.

I am praying...for my Godchildren.

Shrimp... might be teething! He's drooling up a storm and wanting to put everything in his mouth, not to mention running a tiny fever.

What I realized... I have afternoon meltdowns too!

Planning for the weekend..we get to hang out with Kenny and Daphne for some LSU football and grilling. Hopefully Wyatt brings his chipper self. I do want to try to bring Wyatt for the obligatory "it's my first halloween" pumpkin patch pictures. Maybe Saturday morning

Ouch!

Meet Benedryl.
Useful for relieving itch due to "poison ivy, oak, and sumac." I have no idea what sumac is and don't want to find out, but I've always grabbed this for a bite that won't stop itching.

Last weekend I found myself with what I've home diagnosed as a spider bite on my neck. Sorry no pictures. It wasn't that exciting. Really. Just itched a bit. So.....

Now meet my bottle of Benedryl. Useful for....... nothing.
 Check this expiration date.
Yes, my friends, this bad boy reads November of 1999. It has graced the dorms of  LA Tech and journeyed to Houston and moved three times since being a Texan. Why I continued to pack this up and bring with me? Who knows. It seemed to work on my bite, but sometimes I think it's just mental anyway. It is a good reminder, however, to go through my medicine cab in search of other gems that need chunking.

Friday Fun on Saturday Night

Thanks again to  My Life in the Men's Room for this blog idea! This week has been significantly better than the last.

Today..

I hope God takes care of... each and every member of my family this week.

Outside my window...It's dark and cool and summoning me to go to bed although it's only 8:30 and there is still a Shrimp in need.

I am listening to...the LSU/McNeese game on Cowboy's computer. Come on Tigers. Be impressive. Shrimp is fussing over the monitor. Geaux to sleep kiddo.  Sweet dreams.

I am wearing...an clash of pajamas. I shall call it Mismatched Chic. The remainder of my daytime outfit (LSU t-shirt) with red and white (rather Christmas-like) jammie pants. Sexy.

I am loving...the Fall weather we are having. You gotta love when you can take your boy outside on more than one occasion during the day.

I appreciate...  the Internet research of Cowboy. We will figure out this parenting thing yet.

From the kitchen...I am busy looking up soy/dairy free recipes. We also had salmon wrapped in bacon and asparagus wrapped in bacon Thursday night. Cowboy was sad there was no bacon wrapped in bacon.

I am proud... that I've read two books in the last two weeks.

One of my favorite things...Purple Sweet Potato Chips from HEB. Well, they aren't HEB brand, but they don't contain any Shrimp Offenders and are yummy. I think I just love all things sweet potato.

I am grateful...that Shrimp is gaining weight.

I am thinking about...what I will cook tomorrow that I can eat on all week. I used to hate leftovers, but now they are a girl's best friend.

What I dreamed this week ...  being back in college. I was on the swim team and traveling lots. Had a crush on this baseball player and was mad that my swim team schedule was interfering with my social life. I didn't even want to be on the swim team. I just can't say no. (Sorry about the crush Cowboy)

I am praying...for my sweet family.

Shrimp... is such a smiler! Too bad my camera doesn't click fast enough to catch his grins. What, did you say birthday present

What I realized... I need to give myself more credit. And permission.

Planning for the weekend...It's the freakin' weekend...

I'd say I can be "rustic yet refined..."

Friday Fun Dos

Thanks again to  My Life in the Men's Room for this blog idea! I'm having a rough week, so I'm adding some "rough week" categories.

Today..

I'm worried about...Wyatt's belly. Digestive issues must go!

I'm stressed about...Wyatt's' belly.

I hope God takes care of....Wyatt's belly.

There I've said it. Now given it to God and moving on.

Outside my window...It's a beautiful day! Sun is shining and it looks like the outdoors is inviting us for a walk. It's a tad warmer than I like, but I"ll take it over our normal Texas heat. What a great day for a happy hour. Since having to move to formula for now, perhaps there is a patio calling my name for a date with Margarita. Pump and dump? Sorry for those that this is t.m.i. I can start talking about green baby poop if you'd rather?

I am listening to...the ocean over the baby monitor. "I was born in the sight of water...." Hey, I'll get to the water any way I can.

I am wearing...an LSU shirt hoping to will them to a non-messy, non-lucky victory this week! The front says, "Fearles football" Get it, Fear Les... yea, when you have to explain the joke...
The back says, "Putting the Nasty Back in Dynasty."
Let's geaux defense!

I am loving...the fact that it's Friday. I swear we get a totally different kid on the weekends. Happy all of the time and a great sleeper! (This is a repeat. I still love it.) I also love the show Parenthood and my brother Rich.

I appreciate...  Nikki Wallace. Thanks for the formula advice! And yay that Cory's on his way soon!

From the kitchen...I just ate an early lunch...leftover taco meat and this coconut milk Jamaican rice. The rice by itself didn't have much flavor, but was delish with the taco meat. I hate eating this early, but when you are hungry, a girl's gotta eat!

I am so excited...that we got a cute Halloween set of pajamas in the mail yesterday!

One of my favorite things...the iPhone. Makes life nice. Smile.

I am grateful...that God walks me through each day and has given me friends and family that inspire me with their strength!

I am thinking about...answering the phone. My mom called.

What I dreamed this week ...  baby bottles. Hmm... something's on my mind right?

I am praying...for my baby boy.

Shrimp... He's struggling. Let's get his belly fixed God!

What I realized... I am an emotional girl! Ok, I knew this already.

Planning for the weekend... fix Wyatt's belly. Yes, you see the trend here.

A picture thought I am sharing...

Greek Festival perhaps? Love to go this weekend. We'll see if possible.

Long Beautiful Hair...

Hair Update. I fixed it (or attempted to) for the first time since getting it cut Saturday. Does it look like it did when I walked out of the salon? Not even close. Should have bought more products. Or maybe I don't DIY blow dry upside down correctly.

Sigh.

At least my kiddo is still cute and I have this wonderful song to cling to. (And spaghetti!)

So I Lied

There was much more going on this weekend than the football I mentioned here. I totally forgot about one of the biggest events in the last few months--my haircut!
It's a big deal--huge! I haven't cut my hair since before Wyatt was born. I'm trying to grow it out which is really just a vicious cycle. I have thoughts of long luscious hair then realize my hair is too fine for long hair then cut it into some sort of bob then decide I want to grow it out again then hate it for a few years while it's in an in between stage. What a run-on sentence!
I also struggle with choosing a stylist. I don't want a stylist; I want a magician! I have such fine hair that there just isn't much to be done with it. I found one I love in Rice Village, but unfortunately, we don't live that close anymore. When I'm away from Wyatt, to drive an extra 30 minutes each way is just more difficult. So, I tried someone closer. Here's the outcome.

I thought I looked great walking out of the salon. After stopping at the grocery and unloading my goodies, I am not sure it held up so well. I really just needed a trim to clean the ends up. My layers were all over the place. We'll see if it's easy to fix on a daily basis. Ponytails are great for some days, but I need some more mom style and hope to wear it down more as it cools off around here. Here's the end result. I apologize for the cheesy mirror pic.

I went to Toni&Guy with recommendation from a friend. They go ahead and give you this DIY guide to take home. Made me laugh. Mine included blow-drying my hair upside down. Come on lady; do you think you were the first person to suggest that? And of course other do-it-yourself suggestions included using their styling products.

Well, she saw me coming in the door.
I'm a hair product whore. I get suckered every time. I don't buy everything they suggest, but I'll take a dare here and there with ridiculously priced gunk to make my hair do what they do in the salon as a trained professional. Key point here-trained professional. But I always end up with something. I had purchased the dry shampoo earlier in the week at Target. We'll see how that goes. But here you have some body booster spray. We'll see if it works miracles.

While I got out of the house for a bit, Wyatt hung out with Cowboy. Isn't he a cutie just chilling in his jammies on Saturday morning? I hear they went for a walk and had a great nap.

After Momma got back, baby got fed, and Daddy got dressed, it was time to hit our neighborhood's annual International Music Festival. We went last year after participating in the Race for the Cure and replenishing our strength with homemade bloody marys. This year, not so much. One major event per day, sometimes even per weekend.

So this was Shrimp's first ride in a limo bus, "stripper", I mean safety pole and all. Check out the mirrored ceilings. He rides in style.

We need a name for this elephant. It's his republican elephant, but needs a name. Nowak suggestions???
This is how Wyatt spent his time. Apparently the kid group on stage just didn't amuse him. There were some bad mamma jamma jump ropers. I never knew how kick@$$ jumping rope could be!
Now we get to the football. I don't have enough pics with me and the bebe, but I always look like a mess anyway (see below). Regardless, it's time to capture the cutie with his Momma.
Quotables

Kid watching the game instead

This is my I'm angry at Les Miles face
Shrimp used halftime for a workout of his own. Pay close attention to the details, Friends. For example, notice his attempt to grab the toy with his left hand. We're working on that one. He's also quite adept at using his right hand to manipulate his pacifier. Perhaps he's preparing for a mouth guard? Do we have a dual sport athlete in the house? Methinks so.

LSU game quotables:

"Les Miles has a shamrock up his @$$" -Cowboy
And here's one of his facebook updates -

Les Miles proves his genius again. Most people would have spiked it on third down, but he had the foresight to sub in players to get TN to panic. What a genius. I AM NOT being sarcastic. AT ALL.

The Tigers won in a spout of luck at the end of the game. I hope Les Miles went to church 13 times on Sunday--one for each TN player on the field to give him the victory.

And that was Saturday. See, much more than football! Then comes Sunday. Check out this cutie below. He crushed, I mean CRUSHED!, his crib last night going through all layers of sheets, pads, protectors, etc.  I changed his diaper while he wailed because poor bebe was hungry, and couldn't make myself put clothes on him before feeding him. Getting a new diaper on was a task in itself, so after eating and before Mass he chilled in his bathrobe. This is how Shrimp rolls on Sunday morning!

And as if there weren't enough adorable Shrimp pictures in this post, here are my attempts to capture his cuteness in his first smocked outfit. I love little boys in cute little boy smocked clothes. He drew lots of attention at Mass today with this number.

And the Texans pulled it off despite Wyatt failing to wear the game day onesie. At least he was wearing blue. It's even close to Texan blue really, but we did fine! How did you spend your Fall weekend?

Friday Fun

I saw this post over at My Life in the Men's Room and am stealing the idea. I like the fact that it's a quick diary type entry - a way to reflect once a week on where I am as well as something to look back on and see where my world stood.
Maybe I'll change some of the topics or add my own to put my own seasoned spin on it. It will perhaps evolve as I do. Enjoy!

Today..

Outside my window... the sun is coming up slowly, and it's looking like another great day in Houston! Finally, Fall is peeking it's little head around the weather corner. It's been great for morning and evening walks with the Shrimp. it's raining.

I am listening...the Today show and the sounds of the noise machine (ocean) on the baby monitor. Aha, the Shrimp is stirring.

I am wearing...my United States Navy t-shirt from my Ali and blue athletic capris. These pants are part of my mom "uniforms!"

I am loving...the fact that it's Friday. I swear we get a totally different kid on the weekends. Happy all of the time and a great sleeper!

From the kitchen...I made quinoa for lunch to accompany the roasted chicken I picked up earlier this week and have been picking on. I made a baked ziti on Tuesday for a neighbor who had surgery Tuesday and kept a few servings for Cowboy. It was a killer to smell that all day and know I couldn't have any for Shrimp's dairy issues.

I am so excited...that Shrimp is sleeping through the night. Apparently this might change as he goes through different stages and spurts, but I'm loving it. I am also in the second half of Juliet by Anne Fortier. It's a decent read, but I'm ready to be done. I get this way about movies too. Get to the second half, and I want it to be finished.

One of my favorite things... Whole Foods--dairy free ice cream snacks? Yes please!

I am grateful...that God walks me through each day and has given me friends and family that inspire me with their strength!

I am thinking about...my family and Wyatt's sleep schedule. Every baby is unique!

What I dreamed this week ...  I actually had a teacher dream at some point.

I am praying...for my big bro and Rich J.

Shrimp... He's sleeping through the night. While the books/experts warn me that this might change due to growth spurts and different phases, I'm raising my hands with a "Praise God!" right now. He can roll over from his tummy to back, but not always on demand. He's just one awesome boy!

What I realized... I just spent the last  15 minutes with Imagination Movers on TV since I was checking out what my Godchild will dress as for Halloween. Come on. Get it together. Baby is sleeping. Put Ellen on!

Planning for the weekend... football it is! Big LSU game and looking forward to the Texans shooting for the win after losing last week to Dallas. There might be a little cooking, will be a little singing, and hopefully everyone will be sleeping!

A picture thought I am sharing...

I made these homemade rolls last weekend. They might make an appearance again  soon!

Yea, I wasn't going to leave you without a pic of this guy!
